Riyadh: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated remotely on Wednesday in a meeting with the leaders of the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Turkish diplomatic sources reported that Erdogan joined his US counterpart, Donald Trump, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the discussions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s unwavering support for Syria in its battle against terrorist organizations, specifically ISIS. He expressed Turkey’s readiness to assist in managing and securing detention centers housing ISIS fighters. Erdogan stated, “Turkey desires and strives for Syria to be a stable and prosperous country that works with the countries of the region and does not pose a threat to its neighbors.”
The Turkish President acknowledged the historic significance of Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, highlighting its potential to influence other countries with similar sanctions on Damascus. Erdogan pointed out that lifting these sanctions is anticipated to boost investment opportunities across multiple sectors in Syria.
Addressing the Palestinian issue, Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s ongoing efforts to halt violence in the Gaza Strip and called for an end to the humanitarian crisis there. He also suggested that immediate peace talks and a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine should commence, affirming Turkey’s commitment to facilitating peace in the region.
