Baghdad: The Ministry of Defense announced on Friday the implementation of an extensive security campaign in Maysan province to apprehend individuals wanted by the judiciary.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated that, “in implementation of the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Chief of Staff of the Army concerning the consolidation of security and enforcement of the law, units of the Maysan Operations Command, represented by the 22nd Commando Division and its attached units, in coordination with the relevant security agencies and directorates, carried out an extensive security campaign encompassing the establishment of surprise checkpoints and mobile inspection points throughout their area of responsibility.”

The campaign involved the use of electronic databases and databases of persons wanted by the judiciary. The participating forces conducted checks on individuals and vehicles to apprehend persons wanted by the judiciary, drug traffickers, and individuals violating the law. Additionally, they seized unauthorized vehicles and motorcycles.

The ministry emphasized that these measures are part of the national responsibility assumed by the Iraqi Army, as a bulwark for safeguarding citizens, enforcing stability, eliminating the sources of criminal activity, and reinforcing community security throughout the province.
