Baghdad:The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency has successfully dismantled a network involved in the counterfeiting of locally manufactured pharmaceutical packaging and replacing it with foreign, internationally branded packaging. The operation led to the seizure of over 300,000 items used in this fraudulent process and the arrest of nine individuals, including six Pakistani nationals, in Baghdad.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Agency’s efforts were part of an intelligence operation aimed at safeguarding public health and pharmaceutical security. The investigation revealed precise information about a workshop where medicines were being repackaged. Products such as starch, pediatric gelatin, and Dexamethasone were repackaged into foreign packaging to falsely resemble imported medications. These counterfeit products were then distributed to wholesalers and pharmacies as vitamins and nutritional supplements.
The Agency further detailed that, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Minister for Federal Intelligence and Investigation Affairs, a specialized task force was assembled. This team of intelligence and technical experts tracked the workshop’s location, identified the individuals involved, and monitored the distribution chain to wholesalers and pharmacies. Their intervention resulted in the seizure of the counterfeit items, effectively preventing their circulation in the market.
