Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed recent developments in the region in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi. Sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday that Fidan and Araqchi discussed the latest developments in the context of recent attacks in the region, as well as the ongoing negotiations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the United States launched attacks on targets in Iran recently, as part of the escalation that began on February 28th, amidst stalled negotiations between the two countries due to disagreements over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial strategic waterway for global energy and trade supplies.

Tehran responded by carrying out attacks against what it claimed were US military installations and equipment in Arab countries, some of which resulted in civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure. The targeted countries condemned the attacks and demanded their cessation.

Clashes between government forces and the Houthis have escalated in Yemen since the beginning of July, following years of relative calm after a ceasefire that began in April 2022. Yemen has been embroiled in war since the Houthis seized control of Sana’a and several other provinces in September 2014, before a Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
