Moscow: The first new land bridge linking Russia and North Korea has been opened, connecting the two countries and spanning the Tumanya River in Russia’s Primorsky Krai region. The bridge, approximately one kilometer long, features two lanes for vehicular traffic, marking a significant development in the transportation infrastructure of the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the bridge connects to the Ussuri Highway within the East-West Transport Corridor. This connection is expected to enhance freight and passenger traffic significantly, bolster industrial cooperation, and boost tourism between Russia and North Korea. The bridge can accommodate about 300 vehicles daily, ensuring a steady flow of traffic across the two nations.

The bridge has been named after Soviet officer Yakov Novichenko, who is credited with saving North Korea’s founder, Kim Il-sung, from an assassination attempt in 1946. This naming serves as a symbol of the historical ties and mutual respect between the two countries, further cementing their relationship through this new infrastructural link.
