Baghdad: The Foreign Minister demands that the Iranian side clarify its official position regarding the attack on Barzani’s headquarters. Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Monday called on Iran to take an official stance regarding the attack on the residence of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detailed that on Monday, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to discuss the attack that targeted the residence and personal office of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, by Heidel-110 drones.
Hussein emphasized that previous attacks were justified by the Iranian government on the grounds of the presence of Iranian opposition parties or factions in the region. However, the latest attack directly targeted the Prime Minister’s residence, setting a precedent that will increase tension and threaten stability in the region.
The Foreign Minister condemned this attack and requested clarification of the official Iranian position on the matter, stressing that such actions constitute an escalation that will have repercussions for Iraq’s security and the stability of the region.
For his part, Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed his surprise at the attack, explaining that he had no information indicating that the attacks originated from Iranian territory. He emphasized that there was no justification for such actions, given the positive and strong relations between the Iranian government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, particularly with the two main parties in the region.
Hussein called on the Iranian side to issue an official statement clarifying the Islamic Republic of Iran’s position on the attack and the parties or reasons behind it. Araqchi affirmed his country’s rejection of anything that could escalate tensions and destabilize the region and promised to issue an official statement clarifying the Iranian government’s position on the incident.
