Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy discussed the upcoming Amman Conference on Jerusalem, scheduled for next Wednesday, during a phone call on Sunday. Hussein stressed the importance of continued communication and coordination between Iraq and the Arab League. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): that 'Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, during a phone call on Sunday with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy, ways to enhance joint Arab action and coordination regarding the most prominent issues and challenges facing the region.'

According to Iraqi News Agency, the statement added that 'the Minister began the call by reiterating his congratulations to Nabil Fahmy on his appointment as Secretary-General of the Arab League, wishing him success in his duties in a way that contributes to strengthening the role of the Arab League and consolidating joint Arab action.' The statement further noted that 'the two sides discussed the Amman Conference on Jerusalem, scheduled for next Wednesday, and emphasized the importance of the conference's outcomes in supporting the city of Jerusalem and bolstering Arab and Islamic efforts aimed at protecting its identity and status.'

'The two sides discussed Iraqi-Gulf relations,' explaining that they 'emphasized the importance of continuing to develop these relations in a way that serves common interests and contributes to strengthening regional stability and cooperation.'

For his part, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, according to the statement, stressed 'the importance of unifying efforts and strengthening collective Arab action to confront the major challenges facing the region.'

Meanwhile, Hussein affirmed 'the necessity of continued communication and coordination between Iraq and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in various fields, stemming from a commitment to supporting joint Arab action and enhancing cooperation in a way that serves the interests of Arab states and their peoples.'
