Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Affirms Iraq’s Commitment to Strengthening Arab Solidarity


Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed on Monday Iraq’s commitment, as the current chair of the Arab Summit, to strengthening Arab solidarity and consensus and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the region.



According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein headed the delegation of the Republic of Iraq participating in the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.”



The statement explained that “prior to the meeting, the Foreign Minister participated in the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine, as well as the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers.”



During the consultative meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized, according to the statement, that “the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington is casting a shadow over the countries of the region and the global economy,” noting “the importance of opening channels for dialogue between the concerned parties and reaching peaceful solutions that contribute to avoiding further repercussions and financial and economic crises.”



During the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine, the Foreign Minister affirmed Iraq’s clear and unwavering position on the Palestinian issue, namely its support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination.



In his address to the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States, the Foreign Minister reiterated Iraq’s position calling for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and its rejection of war and the expansion of conflicts. He stressed the necessity of prioritizing dialogue and political and diplomatic means to de-escalate tensions and achieve security and stability in the region.



The Foreign Minister also noted Iraq’s commitment, as the current chair of the Arab Summit, to strengthening Arab solidarity and consensus, and unifying positions on the challenges facing the region, in order to support joint Arab action and achieve the interests of Arab states and peoples.
