Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the latest developments in the Iranian-Omani talks and efforts to reduce tensions in a phone call with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, on Friday. A ministry statement indicated that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, during a phone call with the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, the latest regional developments and the results of the talks held between the Omani and Iranian delegations in Tehran.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the statement further explained that “Hussein received an explanation regarding the outcomes of the Omani-Iranian talks, particularly concerning understandings regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.” The two sides also discussed outstanding issues between the US and Iran, including proposed US sanctions that would restrict economic and financial transactions with Iran and their potential repercussions on regional stability.

The statement noted that they emphasized the importance of holding emergency meetings of the concerned countries to discuss ways to address these dangerous developments and mitigate their consequences. They also stressed the need for continued cooperation and coordination between Baghdad and Muscat, working on joint initiatives in this regard, and inviting other countries to participate.

The two ministers agreed to maintain communication and coordination to develop shared ideas and plans and support efforts to contain tensions and enhance stability in the region.
