New York:Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein of Iraq and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis recently engaged in discussions focused on reducing regional tensions and addressing the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The ministers explored the current state of bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland, emphasizing the need for strengthened cooperation and dialogue to mitigate conflicts in the Middle East.

The discussions also covered international and regional strategies to manage the Strait of Hormuz crisis, with attention to its impacts on global trade, energy, and regional relationships. Both ministers underscored the necessity of ongoing coordination and diplomatic efforts to foster peaceful resolutions.

Swiss Foreign Minister Cassis highlighted Switzerland’s role in mediation and initiatives to support de-escalation in Lebanon, reaffirming his country’s commitment to continuing these diplomatic efforts.

Minister Fuad Hussein noted the adverse effects of regional conflicts on Iraq’s security and economy, advocating for heightened international collaboration to prevent further conflict escalation.
