France to Deploy 70,000 Security Personnel for Upcoming Protests

Paris:France’s Interior Ministry has announced a substantial deployment of approximately 70,000 police officers and gendarmes across the country this Saturday to oversee social protests and demonstrations. This move comes amidst warnings of potential unrest, riots, and looting expected to coincide with Halloween celebrations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has introduced an exceptional security plan which includes enhanced protection measures for shops and shopping centers. The plan also involves the deployment of specialized intervention units, drones, helicopters, and armored vehicles to ensure order. Nuñez emphasized that any acts of violence would be confronted with a firm response.

Demonstrations will be allowed provided they meet security conditions, but gatherings suspected of inciting riots or vandalism will be prohibited. Since mid-September, 1,193 police officers and gendarmes have been injured during protests and social unrest, highlighting the ongoing tensions.

The Interior Ministry also reported that about 410,000 people participated in last Saturday’s demonstrations. In response to issues such as wages, the rising cost of living, and declining public services, trade union and student leaders have called for additional protests on October 31 and a nationwide strike on November 5.
