Berlin: German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced that Germany is seeking to reach an urgent agreement with Syria to deport rejected asylum seekers, and that it plans to deport Afghans in coordination with Kabul without Qatari mediation. He said, “The deportation will initially include rejected asylum seekers and those convicted of crimes, followed by those who have not been granted residency.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dobrindt announced plans to organize regular deportations to Afghanistan without intermediaries. He stated, “My goal is to carry out direct and regular deportations to Afghanistan in the future. Currently, this is only possible with support from Qatar, but I want to organize the matter in the future without intermediaries, in coordination with officials in Kabul.”

It should be noted that no deportations have taken place from Germany to Syria since 2012. The German Interior Ministry explained that the number of Syrians voluntarily returning to their homeland after the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad is increasing, albeit at a slow pace.

According to the Ministry, 1,867 people had left for Syria with funding from the German federal government by the end of last August.
