Government Plans Measures to Protect Incomes and Purchasing Power

Accra:According to Iraqi News Agency, Nouri Al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition, announced that the government is preparing to implement measures to protect citizens’ incomes and purchasing power. These efforts aim to ensure market stability and maintain economic activity amid discussions on the dollar exchange rate.

Al-Maliki noted that opinions are divided regarding the decision to raise the dollar exchange rate, as some view it as a concern for citizens’ purchasing power and standard of living. He explained that adjusting the national currency exchange rate is a strategy used by countries facing economic crises, but its success relies on the government’s capacity to mitigate negative effects and limit market repercussions.

He emphasized that the government is working on clear measures to prevent the burden of these adjustments from impacting citizens negatively. Al-Maliki also urged against using these measures to incite anxiety or disrupt the atmosphere, highlighting the need for swift action to protect individual incomes and living standards while reinforcing economic stability.
