Basra: The Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, engaged in discussions with Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian regarding the logistics for accommodating visitors to the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) via the Shalamcheh border crossing. The dialogue, which took place at the border site, also included Khuzestan Governor Mohammad Reza Mavali Zadeh, Iranian Consul in Basra Ali Abedi, and Aqeel Al-Fariji, head of the Basra Provincial Council's Security Committee.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Governor Al-Eidani expressed in a press release that the Shalamcheh crossing is functioning with high organizational efficiency, prepared to deliver optimal services to the pilgrims. He elaborated that all agencies operating at the crossing, such as the control center, the Border Ports Authority, the Passport Directorate, and various support departments, are collaborating as a cohesive unit to ensure a seamless flow of pilgrims. Additionally, he mentioned the involvement of Popular Mobilization Forces and representatives of the Husseini processions in catering to the diverse needs of the pilgrims.

Al-Eidani further highlighted that a strategic plan is in place to oversee transportation costs. This includes the utilization of vehicles from several government departments and the voluntary participation of citizens in transporting pilgrims from Basra to Karbala, a practice continued from previous years. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with relevant authorities to facilitate the smooth arrival and departure of visitors following the pilgrimage.

The Governor also pointed out that a significant issue faced by the crossing in prior years-the overlap of trade and passenger traffic-has been resolved this year. This was achieved by segregating commercial and passenger flows, particularly during peak pilgrimage periods, ensuring a more streamlined process for all involved.
