Accra:Nineveh Police forces have apprehended a group of individuals in the act of cutting down ancient trees in Nineveh Governorate. A statement from the Ministry of Interior reported that units from the Environmental Police, in coordination with the Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Directorate in Nineveh, caught the individuals red-handed while they were cutting ancient trees in Al-Rahmaniya area, in the center of the governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, this operation is part of efforts to protect agricultural land from destruction, in accordance with the Law on the Protection and Improvement of the Environment.
