Abu dhabi: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned Iranian attacks on two tankers belonging to the Emirati company ADNOC as a direct threat to international navigation. The Secretary-General of the GCC, Jassim Al-Badiwi, expressed his strong disapproval of these actions, highlighting the potential danger they pose to maritime security and international trade.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Badiwi emphasized that the attacks represent an unacceptable escalation, threatening the security and safety of one of the world’s most crucial waterways, the Strait of Hormuz. He referenced the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and Security Council Resolution 2817 to underline the seriousness of the situation.

Al-Badiwi firmly rejected any Iranian attempts to use this vital international waterway as a means of pressure and intimidation. He called on the international community to take a decisive stance to halt these repeated attacks and to ensure the security and freedom of maritime navigation, in line with international law and relevant resolutions.

The Secretary-General reiterated the GCC’s unwavering support for the United Arab Emirates, supporting all measures the UAE undertakes to protect its security and interests. The UAE’s ADNOC announced that two of its vessels were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the need for international action to prevent further incidents.
