Guterres to Rashid: I reaffirm my personal commitment to continue cooperation with the Government of Iraq and with you / Expanded

Baghdad President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received a congratulatory message from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the occasion of his election, while affirming his personal commitment to continue cooperation with him and the Iraqi government.

Guterres said in his message, according to a presidential statement: “I am confident that your experience and leadership will have a decisive role in building a unified federal democratic state that serves the interests of the Iraqi people.”

The Secretary-General stressed: “The speedy formation of an effective government with full powers and capable of responding to legitimate demands, through political, economic and social reforms, will be necessary to build a better future for the Iraqi people, including women and youth.

Guterres said: “Iraq, as one of the founding countries of the United Nations, has a fruitful and long-term cooperation with the United Nations.

He added, “You can count on the continued unwavering support provided by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in accordance with the mandate entrusted to it by the Security Council.”
