Baghdad: The Heritage Department, part of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, is actively engaged in the ongoing task of surveying and documenting heritage buildings in Baghdad. This initiative aims to preserve the rich cultural and architectural legacy of the city.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Muayyad Haitham Rasen, Director General of the Heritage Department, highlighted the importance of continuing field surveys and documentation processes for heritage buildings. He also emphasized the need to monitor and remove any encroachments to protect these sites. In line with these efforts, the Heritage Documentation Section’s Maps and Engineering Drawing Division conducted field surveys and scientific documentation of the Sayyid Salman al-Naqib Mosque. This mosque, located in the al-Sinak neighborhood near al-Jumhuriya Street, south of al-Sinak Bridge, holds significant historical importance.

The Sayyid Salman al-Naqib Mosque is a notable heritage site, constructed by Sayyid Salman al-Naqib al-Kilani. As the head of the Ashraf of Baghdad and the Qadiriyya Sufi order, he managed the order’s endowments and served from 1289 AH until his passing in 1315 AH. The mosque was named in his honor, reflecting its historical and cultural significance.

The Heritage Department’s efforts are part of a broader mission to inventory and document heritage buildings in Baghdad. By preparing necessary technical studies, the department aims to preserve these sites and ensure their historical identities remain intact for future generations.
