IMO Praises Iraq for Swift Rescue of Oil Tanker Crews

London: The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has commended Iraq's prompt actions in rescuing crews from two oil tankers that were targeted in Iraqi territorial waters. The commendation highlights the efforts of the General Company for Iraqi Ports and other Iraqi authorities in ensuring the safety of the sailors involved.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the IMO's recognition came during an urgent briefing in London, where Iraq's Deputy Permanent Representative to the IMO, Maritime Attach© Captain Mazen Al-Kaabi, and First Secretary Alia Al-Saigh participated. The briefing addressed the recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding region.

Al-Kaabi conveyed that the Secretary-General of the IMO, Arsenio Dominguez, expressed gratitude towards Iraq and its relevant authorities for their rapid response. The actions of the Iraqi authorities, including the provision of safe haven and necessary health services to the sailors after the incident, were particularly acknowledged.

The targeted vessels, flying the flags of Malta and the Marshall Islands, were attacked off the coast of Iraq. The response from the General Company for Iraqi Ports and the Iraqi Navy was immediate, ensuring the safety of the crews aboard the oil tankers.
