Baghdad: The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali al-Lami, and members of Parliament have emphasized the complementary roles of legislation and oversight in combating corruption.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a meeting with several members of Parliament at the Iraqi Anti-Corruption Academy, al-Lami stressed the critical role of the legislative authority in supporting oversight bodies. He highlighted the importance of enacting laws that strengthen anti-corruption efforts and developing the necessary legal framework. Al-Lami also underscored the oversight role of Parliament and the need for cooperation and coordination between its specialized committees and the Commission to protect public funds.

Members of the House of Representatives expressed their full support for oversight bodies, with a particular focus on the Federal Integrity Commission, which serves as the primary defense against corrupt individuals and those who exploit public funds. They reiterated their commitment within Parliament to back decisions and legislation that help complete the legal framework for the Commission’s work and to amend legislation that needs review to improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures.
