Baghdad: Intensive efforts to improve Iraq’s museum, archaeological, and tourism sectors are underway as the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities pushes forward with initiatives to preserve the nation’s cultural heritage and enhance its archaeological sites and museums.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Lama Yass Al-Douri, Director General of the Department of Public Museums at the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage, recently met with Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji from the Ministry of Defense. Their discussions focused on finalizing logistical procedures for establishing a new aviation museum. The project aims to honor the history of the military institution and highlight the significance of Iraqi aviation within the national memory.

In a related development, Amer Abdul-Razzaq, Director of the ancient city of Ur, held discussions with Baidaa Al-Amiri, Head of the Tourism and Antiquities Committee in the Dhi Qar Provincial Council. Their meeting concentrated on the city’s development and tourism rehabilitation efforts, particularly in advance of the upcoming tourist season. Key topics included the creation of visitor pathways, installation of directional signs, and the integration of the city into the water supply project. Al-Amiri noted that the project is nearing completion, which is expected to enhance visitor services and boost tourism at the historic site.
