Baghdad: Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari affirmed the success of security efforts in preventing breaches targeting oil pipelines, stressing the continuation of work to protect the country’s national wealth and secure vital facilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from his office said that Al-Shammari chaired a meeting at the General Directorate of Energy Police, attended by the Deputy Minister for Federal Security Affairs, the Ministry’s Technical Advisor, the Director General of the Energy Police, and a number of senior officers.

The minister received a detailed briefing on the directorate’s duties, latest statistics, and the activities of its units and detachments. He directed that all necessary support be provided to the directorate to ensure the protection of oil sites and the companies operating there, as well as the safeguarding of oil pipelines as a vital national resource.

Al-Shammari stressed the importance of strengthening intelligence efforts to monitor oil pipeline routes across the country, while continuing to combat smuggling networks and organized crime. He also highlighted the need to utilize advanced technologies, including surveillance cameras and drones, to enhance security measures.

The minister further instructed the establishment of a highly advanced operations room and the provision of modern communication devices to all directorate sectors. He also emphasized the importance of continuous training and capacity building, urging that training schools be staffed with highly qualified and experienced officers to boost the readiness of the directorate’s units and formations.
