Lisbon Tram Derailment Death Toll Increases to 17


Lisbon: Portuguese emergency services announced that the death toll from an electric tram derailment in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, has risen to 17 people, with 23 injured, some seriously.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Portugal declared a national day of mourning on Thursday. Authorities have not provided any information about the dead or the 23 injured reported by police.



The accident occurred on Wednesday when one of the two carriages of the Gloria funicular, a popular tourist attraction, derailed and crashed.



The 19th-century tram is a major tourist attraction in Lisbon and is often packed with tourists at this time of year making the short journey up and down one of the city’s steep hills.
