Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior categorically denied, on Friday, the authenticity of a video circulating on social media platforms concerning the Iraqi-Syrian border.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated that it “categorically denies the authenticity of a video circulated by several social media platforms under the title, ‘A group of Syrians crossing the security barrier along the Iraqi-Syrian border,’ and affirms that the information accompanying the video is entirely inaccurate and bears no relation whatsoever to the facts on the ground.”

The ministry added that “the circulating video was not filmed on the Iraqi-Syrian border, and that the concrete wall shown in the footage is part of fortifications erected along the border of another country and has no connection whatsoever to the Iraqi border.”

It affirmed that “the Iraqi-Syrian border is secure and witnessing a high degree of security stability, owing to an integrated system of fortifications, security barriers, technical surveillance and thermal cameras, in addition to the continuous deployment of Border Forces Command units and field patrols along the entire border strip.”

The ministry called on media outlets, bloggers, and social media users to “exercise accuracy and refrain from circulating old footage or videos filmed in other areas and countries and attributing them to the Iraqi border in pursuit of views, as this misleads public opinion and contributes to the dissemination of inaccurate information.”

The Ministry of Interior reiterated that “Iraq’s borders are safeguarded and secure, and that its forces continue to carry out their duties around the clock with a high degree of vigilance and professionalism to protect the country’s security and sovereignty and prevent any attempt at infiltration or violation of international borders.”
