Interior Ministry Denies Temporary Residence for Former Syrian Officers

Baghdad: The official spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Muqdad Miri, denied the accuracy of the news circulated by some social media sites regarding the government authorities granting the right to “temporary residence for humanitarian reasons” to a number of officers and leaders of the Syrian regime army who sought refuge in Iraq on the seventh and eighth of last December.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Brigadier General Miri confirmed in a statement that “this news is completely false, calling on the media and social media sites to be accurate and obtain information from their official sources exclusively,” noting that “such rumors aim to spread discord and destabilize security and stability.”

He stressed that the Ministry of Interior has not taken any action related to granting temporary residence or for any other reason to officers and leaders of the former Syrian army, as some are trying to promote through various media platforms.

He called on everyone to stay away from circulating unconfirmed news, stressing that the ministry will take the necessary legal measures against those who spread rumors and false information.
