International Red Cross Urges Continued Ceasefire in Lebanon

Beirut: The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Lebanon. This is crucial to facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their homes and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in dire need.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Spoljaric issued a statement during her visit to Lebanon, highlighting that the collapse of the ceasefire would drag civilians back into violent conflict, resulting in further death and destruction. She underscored that preserving the ceasefire is vital for families to return, rebuild their lives, and guarantee the distribution of aid to the most vulnerable groups. The humanitarian needs in Lebanon have surged following recent hostilities, and adherence to wartime rules could have significantly mitigated the devastation.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, through its X platform account, reaffirmed its commitment to aiding Lebanese communities in their recovery and reconstruction efforts. This includes repairing infrastructure, providing medical care and relief supplies, supporting livelihoods, and educating families about the dangers of unexploded ordnance. Spoljaric departed Lebanon on Saturday evening, heading to Syria to engage with authorities and evaluate the country’s humanitarian needs.
