Tehran: Iran announced on Thursday that it has targeted US military bases in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in retaliation for a US strike on a wedding party in Iran, which reportedly resulted in four fatalities and nearly 70 injuries. US Vice President JD Vance stated that the alleged wedding strike is currently under investigation.

According to France24.com, the recent hostilities have exacerbated tensions amidst a six-month conflict in the region. The US military has launched raids that began on Sunday, further deepening the deadlock as Iran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz while the United States continues its blockade of Iranian ports.

Kuwait’s military reported intercepting a missile and drone launched by Iran, with Iran claiming it targeted Kuwait’s Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base. Kuwait condemned the attack as a serious violation of international law. Iran also reported striking the Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE, although the UAE has not confirmed any such incident.

These developments follow the Iranian Red Crescent Society’s (IRCS) report of a missile strike on a wedding in the coastal town of Kuhestak, which resulted in fatalities and numerous injuries. Vice President Vance noted that the US is investigating the incident, expressing skepticism about Iranian reports.

Ahmad Vahidi, leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), has vowed to avenge the wedding attack, while US Central Command (CENTCOM) reiterated that the US does not target civilians, unlike the IRGC.

US military operations have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 19 Iranians, with further Iranian casualties reported by Tasnim News Agency. Tehran has responded with strikes across the Middle East, claiming to have targeted US forces in multiple countries.

Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei warned the US of a new strategic approach in the conflict, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed belief in the imminent fall of Iran’s government.

The US has also threatened to impose expansive sanctions on Iran’s economic partners, with Energy Secretary Chris Wright promising heightened economic pressure.

Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized the US over the wedding attack, while Iranian citizens expressed concern over the ongoing hostilities, calling for a return to negotiations. A video purportedly showing the aftermath of the wedding attack has circulated, reflecting the distressing impact of the conflict on civilians.

In light of these developments, Israel has prepared to respond to any potential Iranian aggression during the upcoming Jewish high holidays.
