Baghdad:Deputy Minister of Oil, Izzat Saber Ismail, confirmed that Iraq has made tangible progress in increasing the volumes of captured gas. He emphasized that natural gas is a primary and reliable source for meeting the growing global demand for energy.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Oil reported that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) concluded its eighth summit in Moscow, highlighting the importance of global energy security, investments, and long-term contracts in the gas sector. The “Moscow Declaration” adopted at the summit expressed concern over geopolitical tensions affecting market stability and energy supply security.
The Ministry stated that the gas sector receives continuous support from both the government and the Ministry of Oil, leading to various projects and contracts aimed at developing gas fields and expanding necessary infrastructure. These efforts are in collaboration with international companies, aiding in technology localization and workforce development.
Iraq has achieved significant progress in increasing captured gas volumes and adding new processing capacities, with further projects underway. The Ministry emphasized plans to halt the flaring of associated gas, transforming it into an economic resource to support electricity generation and local industries, thus reducing imports and mitigating environmental impacts.
Iraq aims to build an integrated gas industry, focusing on exploration, development, production, processing, transportation, and related sectors, while expanding partnerships to accelerate national resource investment.
