Iraq and Iran Agree on 13-Point Plan to Enhance Border Crossings and Trade Cooperation


Baghdad: The Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced on Monday that it has reached an agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran comprising 13 points to enhance cooperation and improve the operation of border crossings between the two countries.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the head of the authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, chaired the fifth joint meeting attended by senior Iraqi officials, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security, and representatives of relevant Iranian agencies. The agreement focuses on strengthening security and trade coordination, combating smuggling, facilitating import and export procedures, electronically validating customs documents, operating border crossings 24/7, and closing unofficial crossings.



The statement emphasized that the agreement aims to develop infrastructure, exchange intelligence, and protect the security and economic interests of both countries, ensuring efficient and organized border operations.
