BAGHDAD: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein of Iraq, in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, declared Iraq’s firm opposition to the use of its territory as a staging ground for military actions against neighboring states.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hussein emphasized the Iraqi government’s stance against being implicated in regional conflicts. He highlighted the potential threats to international peace and stressed Iraq’s intent to remain neutral. ‘The outbreak of war in the region threatens international civil peace,’ Hussein stated, adding that such conflicts could precipitate an energy crisis and disrupt maritime navigation.
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the current tensions in the region, noting Iran’s efforts to consult with allies to halt what he described as ‘Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Gaza.’ Araghchi clarified that Iran does not seek war but is focused on fostering regional peace. He called upon the international
community to take more responsibility for the displaced populations in Lebanon and Gaza, underscoring the urgency to cease hostilities.
Both ministers expressed their concerns about the possibility of escalation due to actions by the Zionist entity, with Araghchi emphasizing Tehran’s commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
