Baghdad: Iraq is considering signing a comprehensive agreement for the transport of goods and passengers with Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Transport discussed with the Kyrgyz side ways to enhance joint cooperation and develop land transport between the two countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the video conference, Abbas Khazal, representative of the General Company for Land Transport, emphasized the importance of drafting and concluding a comprehensive international agreement covering both freight and passenger transport, rather than relying on partial frameworks. This approach aims to ensure the highest levels of comprehensiveness and effectiveness in transit and land transport.

Discussions also focused on facilitating the passage of Kyrgyz trucks through Iraqi territory towards the Gulf countries. There was an emphasis on simplifying technical and customs procedures at border crossings to reduce time and costs, thereby strengthening Iraq’s position as a vital trade corridor and region
al link between Central Asia and the region.

For its part, the Kyrgyz side welcomed the proposal of the representative of the General Company for Land Transport. It was agreed to provide the Iraqi side with a draft of a comprehensive agreement for the transport of goods and passengers for study and discussion in upcoming meetings, paving the way for its formal conclusion.
