Rabat: The head of Iraq’s Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, discussed with Morocco’s Attorney General, Hicham El-Blaoui, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in combating corruption and recovering stolen funds and assets, during a meeting held in Rabat.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission said in a statement that the meeting addressed the exchange of expertise and best practices between the two sides in the fields of integrity and anti-corruption, in the presence of representatives from the Moroccan Public Prosecution.
Al-Lami also held a series of meetings with Moroccan officials on the sidelines of signing a memorandum of understanding between Iraq’s Integrity Commission and Morocco’s National Authority for Integrity and Anti-Corruption, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing experiences.
Al-Lami highlighted the deep historical relations between Iraq and Morocco, noting Iraq’s accession to both the Arab and UN Conventions against Co
rruption, and its efforts to sign several memoranda of understanding with counterpart agencies to enhance joint action.
For his part, El-Blaoui praised the efforts of Iraq’s Integrity Commission in addressing the complex challenges of asset and suspect recovery, expressing his readiness to support Iraq legally, particularly following a court decision lifting the freeze on the accounts of Al-Rasheed and Al-Rafidain banks in Morocco.
