Rabat: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein discussed, today, with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, regional issues and challenges facing the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting took place at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where both parties explored avenues to enhance bilateral relations and expand cooperation between Iraq and Morocco.

Bourita emphasized the significance of Fuad Hussein’s visit to Morocco, highlighting the necessity to activate joint work mechanisms and cooperation structures. He noted the potential of Iraq serving as an economic platform for Morocco in the region, while Morocco could become an investment gateway for Iraq in Africa. Bourita welcomed the idea of convening a joint committee at the level of foreign ministers to boost bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein expressed enthusiasm for his second visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, underscoring the importance of developing economic relations and exploring opportunities through the joint committee framework. He stressed enhancing cooperation in vital sectors such as finance, industry, tourism, and trade, as well as collaborating in the African arena.

The discussions also touched on regional issues and the challenges faced by the region. Fuad Hussein conveyed Iraq’s eagerness to host the next Arab summit and hoped for Morocco’s active participation. He highlighted the importance of security cooperation and sharing expertise, noting Iraq’s experience in combating terrorism.

In the cultural and sports domain, both sides emphasized encouraging official visits and supporting investments and businessmen. They explored potential cooperation in sports and youth, particularly with Morocco preparing to host the FIFA World Cup, which could strengthen their partnership.

The ministers agreed on leveraging the capabilities of Iraqi and Moroccan communities abroad, benefiting from national expertise to support development in both countries. The meeting aimed to enhance Iraqi-Moroccan cooperation and pave the way for a strategic partnership across various fields.
