Iraq, Armenia Sign Two Memorandums of Understanding to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Iraq: Iraq and Armenia held a round of political consultations at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad and signed two memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry’s media office stated that the Foreign Ministry in Baghdad hosted the round of political consultations between the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Armenia as part of the two countries’ efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand prospects for cooperation across various fields. The ministry added that Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloum received Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ani Avetisyan, and her accompanying delegation.

The deputy foreign minister welcomed the Armenian delegation and underscored the importance of holding the political consultations as an important platform for exchanging views and enhancing coordination between the two countries. He noted that the consultations reflected Iraq and Armenia’s commitment to developing their bilateral relations and expanding cooperation, particularly in the economic and investment sectors.

Bahr Al-Uloum reviewed the main political, security, and economic developments in Iraq, noting the significant improvement the country has witnessed and the promising opportunities this presents for strengthening economic and investment cooperation. He also highlighted investment opportunities available in Iraq, describing them as important areas of potential engagement for Armenian companies and investors. He affirmed Iraq’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities to help expand the presence of Armenian companies and increase trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to hold the consultations, commending the developments taking place in Iraq across various fields. She affirmed her country’s desire to elevate bilateral relations and broaden areas of cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples.

The statement added that the consultations also included an exchange of views on key regional and international developments. Both sides stressed the importance of supporting efforts aimed at achieving peace, security, and stability in the region, given their direct impact on creating an environment conducive to development and prosperity and strengthening cooperation among countries in the region.

At the conclusion of the political consultations, the two sides signed two memorandums of understanding. The first was between the Foreign Service Institute of Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its counterpart in Armenia, aimed at strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in diplomatic training and capacity building. The second was between the ministries of youth and sports of Iraq and Armenia, aimed at enhancing cooperation and coordination and exchanging expertise in related fields.
