Iraq Celebrates Sovereignty Day as Security Forces Assume Full Control

Baghdad:Al-Numan: In a significant announcement on Sovereignty Day, the Spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Numan, declared that Iraq has moved beyond reliance on the international coalition, with the nation’s security forces now fully in control.

According to the Iraqi News Agency, al-Numan emphasized the importance of Sovereignty Day, marking a milestone where Iraqi forces have taken complete control of national affairs. This development is seen as a tribute to the sacrifices made by the Iraqi people, including those who were martyred or wounded, as the country transitions from being under the coalition’s influence to establishing relationships based on equality.

Al-Numan highlighted that the international community acknowledges the courage and sacrifices of Iraqis, which have led to the conclusion of the coalition’s mission. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali al-Zeidi, issued key recommendations during an extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Security Council. These included maintaining current security gains, continuing intelligence efforts, and ensuring that Iraqi forces remain highly prepared to sustain the country’s notable security stability.

For 12 years, coalition forces supported Iraqi security forces in combating terrorism. However, al-Numan noted that this necessity has ended, paving the way for bilateral cooperation between Iraq, the international coalition, and the global community.
