Iraq Enters New Era with End of Global Coalition Mission

Baghdad:Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, announced that Iraq is entering a new era following the conclusion of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS’s mission. He emphasized that true sovereignty means weapons are controlled by the state, and Iraqi territory is free of foreign forces.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zaidi made these remarks during a speech on Sovereignty Day, held on September 30, marking the end of the coalition’s mission in Iraq. He called for Iraq to transition from a conflict zone to a nation that fully owns its decisions and protects its land and sovereignty.

Al-Zaidi expressed gratitude to the Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf for its vital role in defending Iraq and its people. He honored the sacrifices of the martyrs and wounded and praised the efforts of the Army, Police, Counter-Terrorism Service, Popular Mobilization Forces, Peshmerga, and all armed forces and security agencies.

He stressed the importance of national forces uniting under the command of the Armed Forces’ Commander-in-Chief, urging fighters to integrate within the state and its institutions. Al-Zaidi highlighted the necessity of maintaining a single national doctrine and ensuring weapons and military efforts serve Iraq’s interests within the framework of the law and constitution.

Al-Zaidi also addressed the need to protect Iraq’s wealth and public funds, pledging to confront challenges and develop the state’s resources. He committed to not receiving a salary or allowances, underscoring that holding office is a responsibility, not a gain.

He concluded his speech by expressing his hopes for a sovereign and united Iraq, celebrating the will of its people, and honoring the country’s martyrs.
