Iraq Proposes Baghdad as Arab Tourism Capital for 2025


CAIRO: The Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities has officially submitted a nomination file for Baghdad to become the Arab Tourism Capital in 2025. The proposal was handed over by Ali Yassin Abdul Redha, Director of the International Relations Department, to Dr. Abu Al-Nasr, Secretary-General of the Transport and Tourism Department at the Arab League.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the submission occurred in a formal meeting attended by key diplomatic figures, including Dr. Muhannad Al-Shahmani, the Deputy Ambassador of Iraq in Cairo, and Asmahan Jassim, Advisor to the Embassy. During the meeting, Dr. Abu Al-Nasr lauded the comprehensive preparation of the nomination file, which notably emphasizes Baghdad’s rich cultural heritage and ongoing urban and touristic developments.

The Ministry of Culture’s statement highlighted that the nomination file details Baghdad’s strategy to enhance its tourism sector. This includes bolstering infrastructure, improving service quality, and promoting
sustainable development goals to position Iraq as a leading destination in the Arab world. The file also outlines plans to leverage Baghdad’s diverse cultural and historical attractions, ranging from archaeological sites to religious and heritage landmarks.

A review meeting has been scheduled, where Baghdad’s nomination will be presented to delegates from various Arab countries, setting the stage for further discussions on this significant cultural initiative.
