Iraq Proposes Inclusion of Prophet Muhammad’s Birthplace and Quran on UNESCO World Heritage List

Paris: The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, Asaad Turki Suwari, has announced the submission of two significant proposals aimed at including the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Quran on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Suwari revealed these proposals during a meeting with ambassadors from Islamic countries held at UNESCO's Paris headquarters. The first proposal emphasizes the celebration of Prophet Muhammad's birthday, while the second seeks to have the Quran included in the Memory of the World Register.

Suwari explained that the proposal to include the Quran in the register is intended to counteract the actions of certain governments that allow extremists to desecrate the Holy Quran, such as tearing or burning it publicly, which is seen as a direct affront to the Muslim world.
