Baghdad: Today’s newspapers highlight the Cabinet’s decision to suspend all government delegations and focus on completing the formation of the new government. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the newspaper Al-Sabah, published by the Iraqi Media Network, reported that the Cabinet, as part of its cost-cutting measures, approved the suspension of all foreign delegations for state employees, whether centrally or self-funded, and reduced delegation allocations by 60% in the general budget. The Cabinet also made decisions related to enhancing oil and petroleum product export capabilities and extending import approvals for developing medical services until the end of the current year.
The newspaper quoted a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, indicating that Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi chaired the eighteenth regular session of the Council of Ministers, discussing developments in the country and making necessary decisions. The Council approved financial allocations for the Ministry of Oil, enabling monthly fund preparations according to each spending unit’s allocation.
In efforts to boost oil exports, the Council amended its Resolution (165 of 2026) related to crude oil sales, ensuring continued implementation amidst the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Amendments to Resolution (348 of 2026) were approved for agreements between the Ministry of Oil and Chevron, focusing on advance payment agreements, oil security, and technical consultation.
The Council also restricted official travel for government employees and reduced official assignment allocations, excluding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Trade received authorization to negotiate an economic cooperation agreement with Serbia, reflecting efforts to strengthen international relations.
Furthermore, President Nizar Amidi emphasized Iraq-US cooperation in political, economic, and developmental fields during a meeting with US Charg© d’Affaires Steven Fagin. The President expressed the importance of continued bilateral cooperation, while Fagin reaffirmed the US’s commitment to developing relations with Iraq.
Separately, Al-Zawraa newspaper reported on the Minister of Oil’s remarks at the Oil and Gas Exhibition, emphasizing priorities like increasing exports and developing refineries. The Minister outlined a comprehensive strategy for the oil sector, including partnerships with international companies and strategic projects with Chevron, TE, and UCC.
The Iraqi edition of Al-Zaman newspaper noted the Coordination Framework’s meeting, discussing key laws and the necessity of finalizing government formation. The meeting highlighted the importance of completing legislation for the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and addressing oil and gas laws, aiming to strengthen Iraq’s constitutional framework.
Additionally, discussions between Iraq and the US emphasize strengthening bilateral relations, coinciding with the international coalition’s mission conclusion.
