Cairo: An Iraqi military delegation is in Cairo to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and exchange military expertise with Egypt. The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, met with the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army for Operations, Lieutenant General Saad Harbiya, to strengthen security cooperation and develop prospects for joint coordination between Iraq and Egypt.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement indicated that Khalaf received Harbiya and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance security and military cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and the Arab Republic of Egypt, emphasizing the importance of developing avenues for joint coordination. This coordination aims to support security and stability, strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and explore mechanisms for exchanging expertise and experiences with Egypt. They also discussed leveraging the capabilities and expertise available within the Iraqi and Egyptian military institutions to bolster capabilities and serve shared interests.

The statement added that the talks also addressed preparations for the withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq, scheduled for completion on September 30th, and the resulting requirements for the next phase. Emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening Iraqi national capabilities and continuing coordination with brotherly and friendly nations in security and military matters. The importance of ongoing communication and coordination with Egypt was also stressed, contributing to the development of security and military cooperation and the strengthening of shared interests.
