Iraqi Embassy in Libya Repatriates 11 Migrants to Iraq

Tripoli:Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, announced the repatriation of 11 Iraqi migrants from Libya to Iraq.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sahhaf stated that the migrants departed from Mitiga Airport in Tripoli and traveled to Erbil Airport via Turkey. Since the embassy’s reopening in Tripoli two years ago, a total of 402 migrants have been repatriated.

The embassy provides various forms of support to migrants, including humanitarian, service-related, consular, and medical assistance, in coordination with Iraqi national agencies, ministries, the Ministry of Interior, and the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Al-Sahhaf emphasized the dangers associated with migration from Libya, cautioning young people and their families against engaging with smuggling and human trafficking networks. He highlighted the risks migrants face, such as death by drowning, disappearance, and an uncertain fate.

He also commended Libyan security agencies, particularly the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration in the Tajoura area, for their exceptional cooperation in facilitating voluntary returns.
