Iraqi Government Sets September 30th as Final Date for International Coalition’s Exit

Baghdad: The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu’man, announced at a press conference that September 30th has been set as the definitive date for the withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq. This date reflects the Iraqi government’s intention to assert its sovereignty and demonstrate the readiness of its armed forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Nu’man emphasized the coalition’s significant contribution through air support, intelligence, and other assistance without ground intervention. The operation, titled Inherent Resolve, will conclude as planned, marking the defeat of ISIS. Al-Nu’man highlighted the Iraqi armed forces’ preparedness and coordination with other security agencies. A recent meeting between Iraqi security leaders and those from the Kurdistan Region focused on enhancing combat readiness, border control, and narcotics control.

Al-Nu’man stated the Iraqi government’s pride in its coordination with the Kurdistan Region, sending a global message that Iraq is free of terrorism and open to foreign investment. He detailed efforts by the Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, supported by the Prime Minister, to eradicate drug issues across Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region. The directive includes providing rehabilitation opportunities for drug users and targeting traffickers.

Al-Nu’man noted that post-September 30th, the relationship with the international coalition will shift to one of equality, with continued intelligence coordination. He reiterated the Commander-in-Chief’s directive that no weapons will be allowed outside state control after this date. The process of disarming factions that fought ISIS is ongoing, respecting their sacrifices while aligning with political frameworks.
