Baghdad: The General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage has organized a specialized workshop focusing on “The Iraqi Museum and the basics of museum work.” The Department of Archaeological Studies, Research, and Training at the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, in collaboration with the Department of Public Museums, conducted this workshop titled ‘The Iraqi Museum: A Memory of Human History and the Fundamentals of Museum Work.’ The event was supervised by Qasim Tahir al-Sudani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities for Arts Affairs.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the workshop was held in the Donny George Hall at the Board’s headquarters. It saw the participation of Ali Ubaid Shalgham, Head of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, along with several Board employees, students from the Department of Archaeology, and other individuals interested in antiquities and museum work.
Abdul Rahman Ayad from the Department of Public Museums delivered a lecture that covered several specialized topics. His focus was on the history of the Iraqi Museum, its role in preserving historical and human memory, and an introduction to the fundamentals of museum work, highlighting its significant pillars and principles.
The workshop also reviewed the most notable historical milestones of the Iraqi Museum and underscored the importance of its collections and artifacts in documenting Iraqi civilization. Additionally, it discussed the fundamental principles and methods of museum work, aiming to enhance the participants’ specialized knowledge and develop their scientific and practical skills in this field.
Dr. Ali Ghanem Hussein, Assistant Director General of the Department of Archaeological Studies, Research, and Training, explained that the workshop was part of the department’s commitment to developing the scientific and practical capabilities of the participants. It aimed to raise awareness of the importance of museums and their role in preserving cultural and civilizational heritage, while also providing staff and students with essential knowledge related to the history of the Iraqi Museum and the various fields of museum work.
