BAGHDAD: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani of Iraq has declared the country’s commitment to mediating a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict affecting Gaza and Lebanon. During a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, al-Sudani outlined Iraq’s active role in regional stability efforts and its coordination with international partners to halt the expansion of the conflict.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office released a statement detailing the discussions held on Sunday between al-Sudani and Araqchi. The talks focused on bilateral relations, recent regional, and international developments, and Iraq’s efforts to stop what al-Sudani called “Zionist aggression” on Gaza and Lebanon.
The statement highlighted Iraq’s initiatives to support peace by preventing further escalation and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected areas. Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s historical warnings about the potential expansion of the conflict and noted the international
community’s increasing awareness of the aggressive actions in the region.
Al-Sudani also mentioned that these efforts are not only aimed at regional peace but also at safeguarding Iraqi national security and the stability of its neighboring territories.
Foreign Minister Araqchi, in response, commended Iraq for its role in stabilizing the situation and for the aid provided to the victims in Gaza and Lebanon. He affirmed Iran’s support for Iraq’s efforts and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and consultation to manage the crisis effectively.
