Baghdad: Iraq is steadfast in its commitment to enhance its air defense capabilities to safeguard its land and airspace, as confirmed by Sabah al-Nu’man, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Nu’man emphasized the success of the recent visit by Iraq’s Prime Minister and his delegation to Washington, where discussions with the US Department of Defense focused on strengthening the Iraqi army, particularly in air defense. The Pentagon expressed its support for advancing Iraq’s capabilities in this domain.

Al-Nu’man further stated that Iraq intends to diversify its armament sources for air defense. A special committee, comprising members from the Air Defense Command and the Ministry of Defense, will be formed to collaborate with countries advanced in air defense technology. This initiative aims to import modern weapons and equipment to fortify Iraq’s land and airspace.

In a previous announcement, Al-Nu’man declared the complete success of security and sovereignty discussions during Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zubaidi’s visit to Washington with a high-level government delegation. He highlighted that the talks, led by the Prime Minister, efficiently achieved sovereign and security objectives.

Al-Nu’man elaborated that the dialogues at the Pentagon and other American institutions resulted in a new framework for joint relations, transitioning from international coalition and crisis management to a sustainable bilateral security partnership. This partnership is based on mutual respect for comprehensive national sovereignty.

He noted that the technical outcomes focused on empowering Iraq’s armed forces through advanced weaponry, specialized training, and enhanced intelligence exchange, ensuring the sustainable achievements of these efforts.
