Baghdad:Minister of Oil, Basim Mohammed Khudair, has announced the initiation of new projects aimed at developing free and associated gas in Iraq. These projects are being carried out in collaboration with international companies, including Chevron, ExxonMobil, and HKN, with the objective of enhancing the country’s national gas production. Additionally, a timeline has been set for addressing the issue of gas flaring, with a deadline of early 2029.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Khudair stated that the Ministry is working on two concurrent strategies. The first strategy is to end gas flaring by early 2029, while the second strategy focuses on boosting production capacity for both free and associated gas towards achieving self-sufficiency in the forthcoming years.
The Minister highlighted that the initiatives involve several projects, including the development of the Nasiriyah field and four exploration areas. These efforts are expected to significantly increase gas production capacity and enhance the utilization of Iraq’s gas resources.
Khudair further mentioned that the Ministry’s aim is not only to achieve self-sufficiency in gas but also to increase oil production capacities. This involves maximizing the use and optimal development of Iraq’s oil fields.
