Istanbul Airport Leads Europe in Air Traffic Density, Achieves Global Recognition

Istanbul: Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Oraloglu announced that Istanbul Airport has once again ranked first in Europe and fifth in the world in air traffic density, with an average of 1,624 flights (landings and takeoffs) per day. Oraloglu explained in a statement on Sunday that the data is derived from the “European Aviation Overview” report issued by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) on September 12.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Oraloglu pointed out that Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in air traffic volume, with an average of 4,200 flights per day, ahead of countries such as Greece, the Netherlands, and Poland. He added that Istanbul Airport has surpassed major airports such as Amsterdam, Charles de Gaulle (Paris), Frankfurt (Germany), and Heathrow (London), while Antalya Airport in southwestern Turkey ranked ninth in Europe with an average of 1,024 flights per day.

He also noted that between September 1 and 7, Istanbul Airport ranked fifth among the world’s 25 largest airports, with an average of 821 daily departures.
