Baghdad: A joint security meeting, chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, and attended by a number of security formation commanders, emphasized the importance of unified command and preventing armed displays to preserve Iraq’s security and stability.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was held at the Joint Operations Command headquarters, with General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, Chief of Staff of the Army, and General Qais al-Muhammadawi, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, leading the discussions. Attendees included high-ranking officials such as the head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, the deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) operations, and other security and police commanders via closed-circuit television.
The statement from the Joint Operations Command highlighted the focus on crucial security matters given the current sensitive situation. There was a consensus on the necessity of unified command and control, in line with the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to ensure Iraq’s security and stability. The officials pledged to adhere to these directives responsibly to bolster state sovereignty.
The meeting underscored Iraq’s neutral stance in conflicts, assigning responsibility to commanders for their respective regions and strictly prohibiting armed displays. Coordination among security commands was deemed essential, and a strict policy against using Iraqi territory for targeting was established. Commanders were empowered to make decisions based on public interest while being held accountable through continuous evaluation.
The need to enhance intelligence efforts to thwart destabilizing attempts was also a key point, along with taking legal action against disruptors of stability. Unifying media discourse to build confidence in security institutions was also discussed.
Leaders of the PMF reiterated their commitment to operating under the Commander-in-Chief’s command and emphasized the prohibition of armed displays, committing to adherence to orders from the General Command. The meeting concluded with a strong reaffirmation of unity among security branches to protect Iraq’s sovereignty and maintain national achievements.
