Baghdad: Judicial cooperation between Iraq and Slovenia has led to the imprisonment of a member of the ISIS terrorist group. The Supreme Judicial Council announced that collaborative efforts and the exchange of information resulted in a significant legal outcome.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council’s statement highlighted the role of international judicial cooperation between Iraq and Slovenia. The cooperation, facilitated through the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), was crucial in the prosecution of the ISIS member, leading to a five-year prison sentence under Slovenian law.

The statement elaborated on the process, noting that the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation received a request for legal assistance from Slovenia’s Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Center conducted thorough searches and verification within the national database, confirming the individual’s connection to ISIS. This successful linking of evidence played a pivotal role in the member’s prosecution.

The Judicial Council emphasized that the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation remains committed to supporting initiatives to prosecute ISIS members and those accused of serious crimes. This ongoing effort is aimed at bolstering counter-terrorism measures, achieving justice, and upholding the principle that no one involved in terrorism should escape accountability.
