Baghdad: The Judicial Development Institute, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized a workshop on environmental justice for the judiciary on Saturday. Judges from the Courts of First Instance and Investigation, along with members of the Public Prosecution from all the Courts of Appeal, participated in the event.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Supreme Judicial Council released a statement highlighting the contributions of key speakers at the workshop. Judge Jabbar Jumaa Al-Lami, Vice President of the Baghdad Al-Karkh Court of Appeal; Judge Hisham Nasr, an international expert from the UNDP; and Mohammed Amer Shanjar, Assistant Dean of Administration at the College of Law, Al-Bayan University, delivered lectures. These discussions addressed the links between environmental crime, corruption, and human rights, and explored the role of civil courts in enforcing environmental protection through civil compensation claims. The workshop also covered the responsibilities of criminal courts in prosecuting environmental crimes and explored the interplay between investment activities and environmental protection.
